WORK EXPERIENCE

2019 - present

Madison Community Foundation
Director of Communication

As Director of Communications, I was responsible for all of the Foundation's communication activities. I developed a strategic communications plan aligning communications with the Foundation’s five-year strategic plan and helping achieve its goals. Maintained the Foundation’s website, providing content and improving user experience where possible. Guided by reader metrics, I revised the digital newsletter strategy, increasing open rates to an average of 47%; and increasing subscription signups by 11% and traffic from the newsletter to the website by 169%. I collaborated with the Director of Donor & Advisor Engagement to develop a professional advisor engagement strategy that included creating a new advisor-focused section of the web site, quarterly webinars, monthly blog posts and LinkedIn-specific social media promotion. In the first four months after implementing this new strategy, advisor traffic to the website had already reached 84% of the previous year’s total volume. In addition, I managed production of and wrote annual report, print and electronic newsletters and monthly blog posts, working closely with department Vice Presidents to develop content.

I collaborated with business unit marketing departments to develop materials ranging from brochures to video scripts, research papers to feature stories. I developed relationships with senior management and subject matter experts that allowed me to become a trusted partner in their thought leadership on investment and fund management topics. I helped develop and coordinate campaigns that encompassed a wide range of elements, including an award-winning campaign focused on advisor wellness for the company's FlexShares ETF division. I launched and managed a magazine for the company’s Wealth Management clients.

As the first editor for the Professional Standards Group, I developed the editorial standards and processes for the department, and convinced reluctant partners that editorial help was beneficial. I worked with partners and managers to regularly update publications providing guidance on a variety of FASB accounting standards and produced periodic Accounting Headlines on new or emerging technical accounting issues. In addition, I edited six technical accounting books providing line by line guidance on FASB accounting standards, taught a writing course for all managers and partners in the group, and supervised editorial staff.

Managing Editor

I oversaw the production of 25 bi-monthly and quarterly newsletters on such diverse topics as estate planning, business valuation, employee benefits and tax planning.
